From the Exhibition Catalogue:

In Joel Kyack’s performance still, "The Dam", the artist is photographed in an idyllic setting, chest deep in a river, clutching a piece of plywood while seeming to break down over what may be a newly found discovery or a potential loss. The prop, a manufactured wood product, subtly refers to the built environment and repercussions of industry over nature, while the river itself suggests notions of transition and spiritual rebirth. This single image, extracted from the artist’s performance, further represents a tale of our disenfranchisement with modern culture, which according to Kyack, is “simultaneously engaging, heart breaking, and liberating.”
